Vengadam is the best silk weaver in the small town of Kanchivaram in Tamil Nadu. He pledges that he would give his daughter a silk saree on her marriage. His pledge becomes the talk of the town as it was impossible for a weaver to afford an expensive saree like Kanchivaram in the pre independence era. Vegandam saves money for the purpose but his brother-in-law ruins his plans. Then to keep his promise Vegandam starts stealing silk strands from his work place. Will Vegandam be able to balance his social, professional and domestic life without compromising on his ideals?
